I’m sick of the racist, sexist, homophobic, and exclusionary tendencies of the bike industry. Make space for BIPOC at the table. Make LGBTQ+ and women comfortable at bike shops. Value the lives of Native American peoples. It’s very simple.

The bike industry needs to hold themselves to a new level of accountability and work to promote inclusion in the sport both competitively and recreationally.

I love Yeti cycles, and own several. We don’t need the word tribe to define our collective. We should recognize what happened to the indigenous people of this land and be agents of change.

We can do it. We can be better. We can critically reflect, recognize our mistakes, and show leadership by acknowledging these mistakes and moving forward with a more equitable framework. Or we can deny that we ever make mistakes or have more learning to do, and maintain the 'I do what I want' world of mountain biking.

It is far past time to become anti-racist. We long privileged lighter skinned types cannot claim racist ignorance.

Initially, I disagreed with this, based on the etymology of the word "Tribe" along with several other reasons I could list. Thing is, though, if it the word has special meaning to a group of people, I can say without a doubt, that it really doesn't hold a particularly special meaning to me and any synonym will do. Sometimes, it's necessary to look past what's technically correct and instead choose people over definitions.
