Any form of discrimination robs people of their human dignity, financial stability, and health. Workplace discrimination limits a community's opportunities for economic growth, investment in schools, and development of safer neighborhoods.
The enforcement of workplace protections are crucial for Black workers, but also central to uplifting women, immigrants, LGBTQIA folks, Muslims, and others from the protected classes.
State and Federal Agencies are dramatically under-resourced which continues to result in a growing backlog of unresolved discrimination charges.
SB 491 would begin the process of establishing local enforcement of California's employment discrimination laws. Better enforcement of discrimination laws will lead to less discrimination in the workplace.
Sign the petition and URGE Governor Jerry Brown to sign SB 491 into law, commit to protecting and enforcing worker's civil rights protections, and take the first step to making accessible, fair and SAFE workplaces free from discrimination a reality for ALL in the state of California.
