Marcy MacDougall started this petition to Yellowknife City Council

All municipalities aspire to create healthy neighbourhoods, where children are supported and nurtured and seniors can age in place.  A large part of community wellness involves safety and accessibility.  Building inaccessible and unsafe streets is a non-starter for communities that care about their residents.

This petition is about supporting the building of a sidewalk on the two-way street of Calder Crescent.

Calder Crescent is a neighbourhood comprised of about 40 households, including two day-homes and a mixture of young and mature families.  It is located off Finlayson Drive and adjacent to NJ McPherson School.  The street is regularly used by pedestrians as a pathway between Finlayson Drive and Williams Avenue and many school aged children use the route to walk to NJ McPherson and Ecole St. Joseph’s School.

When walking on Calder, pedestrians, including very young children, persons with disabilities, and seniors have no safe pathway options and must utilize the road.

After consultation and much back and forth, this issue is currently in front of City Council.  As Calder Crescent is scheduled to be paved in August 2018, now is an opportune time to correct a flaw in the street’s design by adding a sidewalk.

Yellowknife City Council needs our help recognizing the importance of safety and accessibility, especially for those who are the most vulnerable in our society.

Please support this petition to install a sidewalk along the two-way street of Calder Crescent.
