Legislate BC Ferry travel to essential services only

The Sunshine Coast, as well as other BC communities serviced by BC Ferries, has experienced large numbers of visitors this weekend. Long lineups here on the coast at supermarkets, and stock depleted. This despite requests by Dr Bonnie Henry and Adrian Dix for people in BC to stay home and refrain from travel. This will spread the virus in small communities in which the residents have so far acted responsibly, followed the rules, and minimized the spread.  I live in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. My wife and I are over 65, as are many residents here. We have all been following the rules. The threat to our health, and that of everyone here regardless of age, is now increased due to the irresponsibility and selfishness of non-residents. Mayors, local government, the RCMP and BC Ferries cannot prevent people from boarding a ferry for non-essential travel. The Provincial Government can. We note that Premier Horgan was one of the provincial premiers who rejected Prime Minister Trudeau's suggestion of invoking the Federal Emergencies Act. The act includes provisions for restricting and limiting travel. We request that Premier Horgan, Adrian Dix and Dr Bonnie Henry act rapidly to limit BC Ferry travel to essential services and medical appointments only.
