Katie Amber started this petition to Year 11’s and

Year 11’s are calling for the grade boundaries to be lowered due to the explicit source used within the 2019 English Language Paper 1 Exam. Within the source, it is clear the young girl (Alice) is being emotionally coerced and manipulated, but that’s not the worse of it.

‘The Mill’ (written in 1935) is a story about Alice being sold to a farm, where she is abused, sexually exploited and later impregnated by a man much older than herself.

Many parents are calling it vulgar that they use such a source for an exam that is being sat by 15 and 16 year olds. Others think that the question itself, ‘How does the writer make us feel sympathy for Alice’ was insensitive and not thought through.

By signing this petition, you can not only improve the grades for year 11’s around the country but also show AQA that future extracts should be appropriate for the future generations. You can help make a change today.
