Hi, my name is Rodney Crowe and I live in Yarmouth Nova Scotia.I've recently experienced a flood in my basement due to a colapsed sewer pipe under the street in front of my home. My home owner's insurance will pay to fix the damage caused by the flood but does not pay to repair the cause of the flood(ie. the colapsed pipe).I got in touch with the town thinking ,under the street thier problem, but they were only too happy to quickly inform me that, according to town bylaw, I am resposible for the pipe right up to where it hooks to the main sewer line which in my case is on the other side of the street. This means that I am required to hire a contractor to dig up the street in front of my home, repair /replace the pipe then repave the street all at my expense this could include hiring traffic control and, paving company plus I have to apply for a permit to do this and pay a deposit which the town holds for 1 year pending an inspection and they are satisfied with the repair. This could potentially cost me well over 10,000 dollars.I feel this is grossly unfair not only to myself but to anyone who has already gone through this and also anyone who will in the future and I feel, considering what the home owner pays in taxes and water and sewer bills, they should not be responsible for repairs on town property. If you feel this Town sewage bylaw is unfair and should be changed please sign this petition. also any comments are also welcome. I hope to present this petition to the Yarmouth Town Council late April2017 or early May 2017 I will try to keep everyone posted as to how things progress .Thank you for your support,
