In response to the incident where a student called campus police because a graduate student, who is black, fell asleep in a dorm common room while working on a paper, an apology by the university and/or campus police is simply insufficient. It is clear from the video that this student is being petty, vindictive and racist. She is embarrassing the university by demonstrating that they made a mistake in admitting her. She is clearly not the best or the brightest. She is not behaving with integrity. Yale needs to address this incident by insisting that this student successfully complete a course on identifying implicit cultural biases and must also go through a restorative justice process to make amends to the student that she slandered and harassed and also to the campus police for intentionally wasting their time by frivolously and needlessly involving them. This behavior should not be tolerated anywhere, but especially not at a prestigious university with a reputation for excellence and leadership. Yale must send a clear message, to this student and the student body as a whole, that this is unacceptable. This student should not remain in good standing until these steps have been taken.
