About a month ago, a meeting was held with the President of Xavier and housing, to give us more information about how housing was going to work due to COVID-19. It was stated that the Xavier shuttles were going to be taking students back and forth from the Hilton Hotel and other locations in 30-minute intervals. Along with shuttles not running every 30 minutes, they are late, leave early, aren't being cleaned, and often times there is only one being offered which doesn’t allow for social distancing. Due to the fact that there is one shuttle running at times, people are piled on top of each other in order to get to their destination. There need to be more than two shuttles running at a time, and the schedule should be changed to fit the initial statement, which was to run every 30 minutes. There was no email to notify us that there had been a change in the shuttle schedules. There was only a schedule which clearly shows the bus leaving the Hilton Hotel and coming back in hour-plus increments. Housing didn’t effectively communicate with the students about these new changes. During these times, Xavier needs to do a better job of being transparent, considerate, and mindful of their students' health, especially those who rely on the shuttles as a form of transportation. As a result of the shuttles not running on a frequent enough basis, some students are put at a disadvantage because they are logging into classes while riding. Therefore, they aren’t as attentive during their class period. Whereas, if the shuttle runs more frequently, students can be already settled into a quiet and discreet location when their class is scheduled to begin. I advise all Xavierites that are negatively affected by the shuttles or have friends that are, to sign this petition in order to have a more stable and reasonable means of transportation. Our voices and concerns need to be heard and prioritized
