For final exams, students are not required to come into school when they do not have a final in a particular class. However, students are required to come into school when they don’t have a midterm in a certain class. This is outrageous, its unfair. Students shouldn’t be required to have a 1 and a half hour class of strength and conditioning or gym. I propose that the school administrators fix this problem simply by changing the policy to be the same as the policy for finals, just without exam exemptions. Students who took a semester course with no final or a class like a study hall or PE shouldn’t have to come in for that part of the school day. They may if they choose to do so, but they shouldn’t be required. The benefits are clear. The school has less students in the building during testing time, thus lowering congestion and crowds in the hallways. This will also benefit student morale, as students who may have a midterm testing day with no exams don’t feel like their time is wasted. Now yes, this time could be used for studying for other exams, but I think that this excuse isn’t as valid as it may seem. The same could be said for final exams, for one. Also, I guarantee that some kids will not use this time to study, and will end up distracting others who may use this for studying. If you let us stay at home, or at least provide the option of not coming in, students who wouldn’t study anyway wont be distracting the students who want to study, who will now be in an environment that is likely better for their studying needs. And if it isn’t, they can still come to school to study if they please.
