Aerie Yearbook started this petition to Wynne Satterwhite

LAHS students and parents,

The administration wants to get rid of senior quotes. Despite agreeing at the beginning of their year to have them, despite having over half of the senior class submit quotes(which is more than we’ve ever had than any other year), despite our yearbook editors fighting for you guys to keep your quotes for the past week, they gave us word today that their decision is to cut them. Our deadline to submit these pages is today. Their reasoning is to “protect our futures” in the case that it can be used against us in the future, and that our school is being portrayed in a negative way because of our “cynicism” and “depressing nature.” This is a generational issue, not a liability issue. When we look back at these quotes in 20 years, we will remember why we portrayed ourselves this way, regardless of whether adults now can fully fathom it. They believe that because not everyone participated in having a senior quote, that we are not being inclusive. However, senior quotes are a personal decision, whether you choose to have one or not. The Kavanaugh and Northam yearbook backlash was also brought up in their argument. Everyone chose to represent themselves a certain way and NO ONE should be to blame but the person who had the quote, should liability issues come up. Please consider signing this to protect LAHS's present and future seniors' freedom of expression.

Note: This petition only pertains to keeping quotes that are appropriate, and have already made it through our previously established screening process(no vulgarity, libel, etc).
