WHY THE REC CENTER IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR COMMUNITY
• It is the only fitness facility with in-house childcare in the city of Wylie. This is important for mothers with young children. Physically active mothers report less stress, depression, and health issues like diabetes and cardiac disease than their less active counterparts. ¹
• Kids need affordable programs to stay active and grow! Summer camps offered at the Rec Center allow our children to find new interests, deep dive into new skills, and build confidence when they succeed! The rec center is also very popular for basketball, which gives older kids a positive and healthy outlet keeping them out of trouble.
• Affordable fitness options are vital to the health and wealth of Wylie! Diseases from sedentary lifestyles cost Texas employers $9.4 billion a year! These predominate in lower income households who need budget friendly fitness programs.² The cost of emergency services increases when our population is sedentary burdening our health care system. The CDC estimates the cost of caring for a patient of an unhealthy weight at 37% more than the cost of a healthy weight patient, adding an average of $732 annually to the medical bill of every patient. ³
Let’s make health a priority in Wylie! We are proud that our community puts our hard earned tax dollars to this beautiful facility where we can meet our amazing neighbors and become the best versions of ourselves together!
