Courtney Richardson started this petition to Wyandotte County/Kansas City Kansas Parks and Recreation and

Parkwood Pool is a staple of our community and is the only pool in Kansas City, Kansas. This one pool serves a community of 150,000 people, yet is small in comparison to the pools in the surrounding areas that serve fewer people.

We deserve better!

Stand with me to make sure that Parkwood will not only be reopened, but that the facilities be upgraded to the water oasis that our community deserves.

Parkwood is more than a pool. For most of us it is a staple of our childhood, and to not have it open is unacceptable. Access to pools should not be considered a luxury for the privileged. Everyone should have access to adequate public pools.

Parkwood Pool is a part of the soul of our community, and should be treated as such.  Parkwood Pool opening or not should not be up for debate. Not only should the pool be ensured to open every summer season, the pool should also be upgraded to a bigger facility with slides and other activities.

Summers are hot, and the community needs a way to stay cool.

If the government can spend 27 million dollars on a new juvenile center, then the same energy should be given towards initiatives aiming to avoid the need of such a facilities. If there is money for a new juvenile center, there is money to maintain and update Parkwood Pool.

Show you will stand with me in this fight by signing the petition.
