This is San José's only park featuring a sand beach and swim area. You can fish, hike, picnic, barbeque and play volleyball, bocce ball, or horseshoes. A snack bar offers beverages and light foods. Small shade canopies, a tot lot, and a water park complete the adventure. The Los Alamitos Creek Trail passes through this park for 4 miles and features a fitness course which takes you by scenic agricultural lands and riparian communities. Just don't eat the fish.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District closed the lake to swimming three years ago due to blue green algae grown from the high concentrations of total coliform, caused by the waste products of the seagulls and Canadian Geese that live there. Now the Water District is threatening to reduce the lake to a mere "channel" (which will run behind their huge beautiful brand new building) because of the presence of methylmercury in the fish that swim there.
Please help us petition the Santa Clara Valley Water District to keep the lake just the size it is with all of its amenities, email firstname.lastname@example.org
