Allow Tiny Houses in Anchorage
This petition had 69 supporters
We are students at Gruening Middle School in Eagle River, Alaska. We are participating in Project Citizen, which is a national civics competition that teaches students how to create or change a public policy. Our class began researching the problem of homelessness in our community. The public policy we are trying to change is the city permitting and zoning ordinance, which currently does not allow tiny homes in Anchorage. This would allow future work to house the homeless to utilize tiny homes. that can be later used to house Anchorage homeless. This project will cost no money now, for we are only changing a city ordinance.
Our class is also doing many other things to help our cause:
- Writing letters to the Anchorage assembly asking for support
- Writing to the editors of local newspapers and tv stations
- Contacting the municipality to figure out how to change city code
- Testifying at the Anchorage Assembly
- Sponsoring a toilet paper drive in our community to benefit Beans Café
There are hundreds of homeless people out there on the Anchorage streets. We are trying to get permission from the Anchorage Assembly to approve tiny homes to be built here. We need your help to try to get permission for zoning for tiny houses, so the homeless can have a tiny house to get them on their feet. Every time someone signs this petition the Anchorage Assembly gets a email saying another person has signed our petition. Will you support our cause?
