Due to COVID-19, WTSDNJ has decided to give an extra month's worth of ELA and math work. While we students understand the need to keep knowledge fresh in our minds and keep our academic levels steady and growing, we feel such a long program is unnecessary. This is due to the fact that we have been doing video calls with our teachers and have still been doing work to account for the missing school days. We feel that a shorter program might benefit more, as we'd still like to have some of the summer to ourselves. Perhaps removing the whole program may not be the best solution, but reducing the length of the program might be. Or we could have an alternate solution. For example, doing the half an hour each day, but alternating weeks of no work and work. Either way, as students we feel that since we have been making up for school by doing work and projects during the remaining school year, we deserve to relax a bit during summer because of this challenging time. Due to that, we'd like for the summer program to be changed in some way that would benefit all of us. We would still be learning/reviewing, but we would also have some of the summer to ourselves to relax from the school year. While we understand that the program can't simply be removed, it would be nice to have it changed in some way that would benefit all of us students.
