Professor Amy Hord and Professor Kimberli Phillips have had a profound impact on the social work students of WTAMU and the surrounding communities. The extensive support system they provide has created a haven of creativity, security, respect and diversity in which we are encouraged to expand our goals, think critically, and advocate for social justice. We believe that denying present and future students of their knowledge, professionalism, and exceptional teaching expertise would be ludicrous and ill-conceived.
Professors Hord and Philiips provide students with connections in the community that are relevant to their future profession. They also are sincere and compassionate listeners, whose doors never close. They respond to questions efficiently and go out of their way to answer questions outside of the classroom setting. Professors Hord and Phillips both go above and beyond what is required of a WTAMU professor because they genuinely care about the success of their students both academically and personally.
We the students believe the social work program would suffer immensely without their leadership and personal commitment due to the following reasons. Our classes are already crowded and a variety of classes are not offered due to lack of teaching staff. The classes they instruct are consistently full and highly sought after. The students of the WTAMU social work program are bewildered, dismayed and even indignant by the decision to not renew the contracts of two proficient professors that have had such a tremendous influence upon our future as social workers.
