Why this petition matters

Started by Valerie Wiegman

The following is a statement from concerned Wrightsville Beach residents regarding Tennis court usage.

Residents and tennis players are concerned regarding the usage and striping of tennis courts for pickleball play.  It has become known that the courts have been reserved for pickleball play only, whereas there have never been reservations available for tennis play.  Also the striping on the courts has been noted as confusing and distracting for tennis play.  Also recently at a Parks and Recreation Advisory meeting, the pickleball group asked that one tennis court be converted to a permanent pickleball court.

A more agreeable and permanent solution would be to build new courts on the no longer used sand volleyball courts.  Adding these courts for pickle ball play and small tennis would be an excellent addition to our park.  There are many venues for funding, among which are private funding, matching grants through the parks and recreation department, the Wrightsville Beach Foundation, and fundraisers to name a few.  As a tennis community here at Wrightsville Beach, we would like to work with the Pickleball Club and Town of Wrightsville Beach to come to a satisfactory an permanent solution to adding and accommodating a new sport to our town's park facility.
