Install a 20 MPH Speed Limit Zone by Acrefair School

This petition had 147 supporters

The A539 runs directly through the village of Acrefair. It is currently a 30 MPH limit and many drivers exceed this making the road dangerous and unsafe. The paths are narrow and our only crossing is at the top of the village, far away from the school and main areas of occupation.

Our village primary school is currently badly sign posted from the road, with many drivers that are unfamiliar with the area unaware it it situated just off such a very busy road. There are also OAP bungalows directly next to the school and road.

Our residents lives are put at risk daily by attempting to cross this road to access the school, their homes and the public car park. Many near misses have occurred and lots of accidents including fatalities. The residents are desperate for permanent and constant road safety measures to be put in place as a matter of urgency. We do not want anyone else to lose their lives on this road.

Evidence shows that a pedestrian hit by a car travelling at 20 MPH is significantly more likely to survive than a pedestrian hit at 30 MPH.

We ask that Wrexham County Council install a permanent 20 MPH Limit starting at The Eagles, Acrefair and finishing by Border Beds Hill. The represents a road length of around 230 yards and a maximum of around a minute to a standard journey. We think this is a small price to pay when it could prevent the death or serious injury of our residents.
