Save Heritage Trees - Prevent Clearcutting of Old Growth in the Tongass National Forest

In the 1980's the Sierra Club and others exposed the depredations of big corporations on the magnificent old growth forests in the Tongass National Forest of Southeast Alaska. After a long battle, the forests won. These forests are now under attack by big industry, again. The Wrangell Island Project proposes to cut 65 million board feet of old growth. The island is 210 square miles in area. There is approximately 16 square miles of "productive" old growth forest left. The Wrangell Island Project proposes to cut 8 square miles of that old growth. This undermines the Roadless Initiative and flies in the face of common sense regarding Global Warming.
