For decades, the position of Worthington School Board President has been rotated to a new board member each year. This practice keeps politics and power grabs out of the Worthington School Board by ensuring that no single member attempts to dominate the position for years at a time.

Unfortunately, this tradition of selfless service might be in jeopardy. Current Board President Nikki Hudson has held the position of Board President throughout 2020 and might be unwilling to relinquish her title and allow a new board member to serve as President. By refusing to allow the normal transition of power, it’s likely that division and disagreements among board members will only get worse.

It’s not important which of the other four board members serves as the next president, only that the normal transition to a new person be allowed to take place for the sake of the students, teachers, and administrators that the board is elected to serve.
