Over 4 million people around the world are suffering from Crohn's disease and the rate of incidence is increasing exponentially every year. This is a debilitating illness with no cure in sight. The sickness causes extreme pain, inflammation, weight loss, bleeding, fatigue and wasting. Those suffering are often malnourished and unable to eat food. Current treatments such as Humira, Remicade and other biologics only help manage symptoms for a short duration of time, they have devastating long term side effects and do not treat the root cause but rather mask the symptoms. This disease afflicts infants, children, adults and pets of all ages. Crohn's is now thought to be caused by mycobacterium avium subsp. paratubercolosis (MAP) in genetically succeptible people passed on from cattle through milk and meat products. Research has shown that it is zoonotic in nature. Crohn's needs to be recognized as a global epidemic, so that new novel therapies such as RHB-104, Dietzia, Mongersen, FMT, EpiBro and the Crohn's MAP vaccine can be fast tracked through clinical trials. We need this now.
