Behind the excessive moisture humidity brings, it also produces mold, bacteria, viruses, cockroaches, and dust mites. From leaks to damp carpet, this is a perfect place for allergens from cockroaches and dust mites to leave their fecal matter on heavy fabric, triggering allergies and asthma.

Children and people of low income in older homes are at huge risk of developing asthma and flu like symptoms because of the lack of ventilation and proper prevention. Humidity leads to upper and lower respiratory problems, and undoubtedly  attacks the skin, throat, eyes, or lungs when exposed to airborne mold particles.

Especially in this time when we should all be indoors, it is most important for schools and homes to check sources of dampness before the children develop asthma or any lung problems. It is ideal to have rooms at a 40 percent to 60 percent humidity, anything more or less would lead to a longer lifespan of these lung irritants.

Identifying and preventing any risks of dampness is key to saving our own lungs and the lungs of the future. We ask of you to sign this petition to to raise more awareness of this hidden killer in the homes of  those at risk of lung problems.
