Most soakaways are breeding site for mosquitoes. When you go close to a sockaway manhole, you will see mosquitoes flying out from the hole into the environment. Most soakaways in Nigeria are not well covered and are more than a million. If 100 mosquitoes come out from our soakaways daily multiplied for example by a million, we have 100million per day.Most people get treated for malaria and immediately are infected again.This is one of the reason. During the Dry season, we have less stagnant water that will enable breeding of mosquitoes but the soakaways are never dry and their holes never covered. This encourage breeding and subsequent movement of mosquitoes into the environment. The soakaways must be examined and measures put in place to arrest the health and environmental implications.
