Moustafa Elhusseiny started this petition to World Governments

In 2013, a military coup took place in Egypt. led by General El-Sisi, in which the first elected democratic government was overthrown. Since then, El-Sisi has killed and arrested thousands of opponents and displaced tens of thousands of their families.. Recently, 12 political opponents were charged to death, a sentence that has been repeated and implemented many times recently. We are trying now to stop these new executions, Please sign this petition calling governments of the world to intervene to stop the death sentences against political opponents in Egypt.

- According to Amnesty International, Egypt is among the top five executioners in the world in 2020, where Iran, Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia topped the list with 88 percent of the 483 executions worldwide. The irony is that despite the decrease in the recorded executions sentences in the Middle East and North Africa, it rose three times in Egypt, where it led with 107 executions in 2020, followed by Iraq with 45 and Saudi Arabia with 27 executions.

The report, issued last April, indicated that 23 of the 107 executed in Egypt,  were convicted in cases related to political issues, after trials described by Amnesty International as unfair, and marred by forced confessions and other violations.

This verdict coincides as with a sharp increase in the number of executions in Egypt, as at least 51 have been carried out so far this year, according to what Amnesty International has documented.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, had condemned the 2018 sentences as "the result of an unfair trial" that could lead to a "grave and irreversible error in the administration of justice".

You have to know:
- There's 2,632 court sentences to death in criminal and political cases since 2013.
- The judiciary has used the death penalty arbitrarily since the 2013 ouster of Mohamed Morsi.
- Many death sentences have been imposed on opponents of the regime that are rejecting the coup.
- Many of the convicts were subjected to enforced disappearance and confessed under torture.
