Homework should be significantly limited. Children these days get way more than is necessary, which leads to burnout and mental health problems especially throughout teenage years.

There's a huge push currently for children to be good at school, and while this may be beneficial at times, it often leads to burnout. A common response is they should try harder, or work more efficiently, or the fact that homework in present day is lighter than it was a decade ago. Regardless, even if kids today get less homework than in 2001, they're busier. They have sports, clubs, extracurriculars, volunteer hours, internships, other things they're interested in - but homework makes it harder to follow their dreams, or fulfill impossible bars set for them. 

There should be a maximum quota on the hours of homework a class can give each night. It should be voluntary, and not have a massive effect on their grade. There should be enhanced communication between teachers to ensure that no student is going home with an infeasible amount of homework. No student should be up all night to get that last assignment done, or feel horrible because their homework grade brought down their class grade.
