Worcestershire County Council is set to axe 15 school crossing patrols, seven of which are in Kidderminster, from sites which have zebra or light controlled crossings.
The crossing on Chestnut Grove does NOT have a zebra crossing or a light controlled crossing in place. The place the crossing is situated makes it unsafe to install either of these, as it is directly after a bend in the road. As such the County Council should not be removing the crossing lady. The safety of the children at Franche is at risk without a crossing person there.
The school is a primary school and preschool, with children attending from as young as 3 years old. It is imperative that the child can safely cross Chestnut Grove, which is a very busy and congested road at both morning drop off and afternoon collection times.
Franche Road is an extremely busy main road, and many children have to cross it to get to school.
The County Council should not be looking to remove the crossing ladies from these sites and we implore WCC to reconsider, for the safety of the hundreds of children at Franche Primary School who need to cross these roads daily.
