There's tips to coerce girls into having sex using alcohol. They use photos of young girls lifted from teen porn sites. Promotions for best shot of your girlfriend's breasts.
That's what's inside Zoo magazine – and it's still sitting on the shelves of Woolworths as "family friendly" products. It sits next to kids magazines.
I didn't realise just the harm this magazine could be doing until recently. I'd paid no attention. But when I heard Zoo was regularly promoting rape culture and sexism with phrases like "you want to pick the “loosest/skankiest” one of the lot and fetch her a drink…separate her from the flock" – I couldn't stand by and watch it promoted to kids at supermarkets.
Domestic violence is spiralling out of control, while Zoo magazine quietly make a buck by promoting a culture of rape and violence to our kids via supermarkets. It's time Woolworths put actions to their 'family friendly' advertising. For them to continue selling this sexist, vile magazine to young boys is shameful.
Here's another piece of advice for the young guys: “You think your girl’s so dewyeyed she’s never sucked dick before? She knows how it works…. Is your girlfriend a bunny rabbit? A fragile ricepaper arrangement? No? Then how about you let her know she’s being f**ked?... she’ll like you taking charge like a real man.”
They crossed a line with their disgusting use of ANZAC, they too have gone beyond acceptable with their promotion of rape culture and sexism. Unbelievably, a study has even found that the language used by Zoo and that of rapists couldn't be told apart.
It’s time for our supermarkets to stand up for the wellbeing of women and girls and against discrimination, harassment and violence.
Please call for Woolies to #binzoomag – and sign my petition. Please, this sexual violence and sexism has to stop being promoted to young guys.
