Should Woolworths and Coles staff require vaccinations to keep their jobs?
Why this petition matters
Thousands of frontline supermarket workers are being threatened to lose their jobs because they are choosing not to be vaccinated or to get the boosters. They have tirelessly worked throughout the pandemic and it's peak for two years now. Every person has a basic human right to put a meal on the table and provide for their family. Statistics have proven that both unvaccinated, partially vaccinated and fully vaccinated can still carry and spread Covid.
Woolworths and Coles employ many teenagers who are starting up in the workforce which enables them to pay for university whilst working part time, as well as giving them life skills and responsibility, Woolworths and Coles also employ many single parents and other staff members who rely on their employment to cover bills and pay rentals or mortgages. Customers coming into the store do not need to show their status and from 5th March 2022, in Queensland, they do not require mandatory wearing of masks anymore or the sign in with QR codes. There is absolutely no difference then to knowing who may be contagious with Covid,
With the current restrictions easing there is no more concern from the different States about of monitoring and contact tracing. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Australia can "continue to move forward" and does not have to go backwards in the face of the Omicron variant thanks to high vaccination coverage across the nation.
Why then would we want to take away essential jobs and livelihoods from the very selfless people that worked our frontline at the peak of the spread, keeping our shelves stocked and ensuring we had enough essentials like toilet paper?
