Woollahra Council is reconsidering a controversial proposal for youth recreational facilities in Rushcutters Bay Park.
Crs Anthony Marano (Liberal) and Matthew Robertson (Greens) put the issue back on the agenda at a recent council meeting, with support from the Residents First party who has councillors in all five wards.
The proposal, in response to community feedback about the lack of facilities for older children in the area, includes a skate park, basketball court and table tennis tables at the far end of the park near New South Head Road, where noise will not be an issue for residents.
Staff are reviewing the final design to take into account the comments received from the community so the proposed design is not yet ready to show to people but the proposed site is in this area marked with the blue dot (blue arrow) in the image, it is now away from residents, closer to the noisy road and requiring zero tree removals.

- Woollahra Council
Dear Woollahra Councillors
We applaud Woollahra Council for seeking to provide facilities for the 8-12 year old children in the Paddington area through the installation of a youth recreation facility in Rushcutters Bay Park. For too long, school-age kids in the Paddington area have had no age-appropriate playgrounds. Because of this, these kids lose interest in going to the park and instead want to stay at home playing on digital devices.
At the recent Council election, the residents of Paddington made it clear that they wanted more playgrounds in the area and voted in three Councillors who promised to support a youth facility in Rushcutters Bay Park. Please do not fail us now. The opposition to this youth facility has been vocal however please remember that you are there to represent everyone in the electorate, even children.
Kids need to get out and play. Please vote in support of the youth recreation facility in Rushcutters Bay Park.
