Elaine Mostert started this petition to Mayor Susan Wynne (Woollahra Council, NSW)

Dogs need to run. As more and more families live in apartments with no gardens, our family pets rely on public spaces to meet their basic needs for rigorous movement and fresh air.

  • It is inhumane to limit the movement of an animal in your care.
  • There is unprecedented numbers of dog ownership as covid inspired large scale puppy and dog adoption.
  • A very small number of parks are off leash, resulting in the need to drive to specific parks where off leash rules apply. This is deeply discriminatory against families without cars or the ability to drive. It’s poor environmental practice, and discourages family exercise.
  • Walking in a park should be a psychologically positive activity, families should not feel like they’re breaking the law when walking their dogs.

This petition seeks to review off leash rules in our local council parks and update Bellevue Park to off leash status.

To protect against unruly behaviour a three strike system can be put in place to ban  poorly behaved animals.
