Why this petition matters

Started by Jasmine Osbo

A Northern Territory Aboriginal health service, Danila Dilba, have applied for a grant to build an Aboriginal Health Centre in the suburb of Woodroffe. There have been some concerns raised by community members about the health centre being built at this location. Subsequently, a petition was created in an attempt to prevent the grant being awarded. Some of the concerns raised by aggrieved community member,, in the “Say NO to Danila Dilba in our residential neighbourhood!!! (Woodroffe)”, petition include:

If the health clinic also offering ancillary services such as abuse and drug and alcohol counselling etc (quote), were built there would be a:

- Increase in littering and defecation in the area and on the children's playground.
- Increase in crime, number of itinerants loitering, increase of domestic abuse, increased noise, and anti-social behaviours.

To address these concerns, we propose to build adjacent to the Health Clinic a Homeless shelter and short-term accommodation with access to public toilets for those attending the clinic. This will ensure that people utilising the Health Service will have access to basic amenities. This would be an effective management strategy to address anti-social behaviour that purportedly will increase if an Indigenous Health clinic was built in Woodroffe.

If you have put your name to the “Say NO to Danila Dilba in our residential neighbourhood!!! (Woodroffe)” petition, then you should be enthusiastic about signing this petition as this proposal resolves all the concerns raised.
