Request a Special Meeting with the Board of Govenors
The following members request a special meeting of the Board of Directors to discuss the following items.
1. Reconsider the termination of Tim Lacombe.
2. Review historical due process from all involved parties.
3. Ensure Tim was treated with the same fairness and process as other employees who have been involved in similar incidents.
4. Create a reasonable pathway for Tim Lacombe return to the Woodlands.
BACKGROUND:
The Woodlands Board of Directors voted to terminate tennis pro Tim Lacombe after Tim openly/transparently disclosed his substance abuse to the club's General Manager. He volunteered this information to management after experiencing a relapse in hopes of gaining his employer’s help/support with his recovery. Instead, the board voted to fire him without offering help or a leave of absence as is a usual and customary employment practice. Fortunately, there is still time to take a more compassionate and professional approach.
Over the past year or so, amongst the members and staff, there has arisen a crisis in confidence in not only management, but also in the Board. Throughout the past year, the Club has lost many quality and long term staff members. Although there may be several aspects contributing to this concern, it does appear that the Club is drifting away from two very important aspects of good governance.
First, it appears the Club may not have adhered to its historical due process from all involved parties prior to making a decision related to a recent disciplinary action of firing Tim Lacombe.
Second, the Club may have substantively departed from historic precedent related to similar off premises conduct of staff.
What is important when deciding on a path forward related to any disciplinary matter, no matter the result, is that the Club and its members honor its obligations to each other as members, and to our staff, to adhere to our written and historically applied standards of data gathering, due process and precedent. Only in that way can we build the trust, the sense of community and stress-free place that makes a Club successful.
