Katie Luckhurst started this petition to women
  • Personal experience has taught me that the advice from midwives is lacking. It should be explained to women that they could go beyond the few days of "baby blues" and it could actually affect their mental health for weeks, months or years following childbirth.
  • Postnatal depression can affect your work, your relationships and your self esteem. I was told that I'd get a few days of baby blues and that was completely normal. It carried on and I was really down and depressed with a loss of identity. I am still feeling it more than three years later. Since I had been told that a few days of feeling down was normal, when it carried on I felt like I wasn't normal and I just wish with all my heart that I'd been told that it was a perfectly natural feeling and that I wasn't alone.
  • This needs to become part of what women are told by midwives and health visitors so that women don't feel like they are in the wrong for feeling such a way. Without being told that it is normal we are made to feel alien and like we shouldn't feel a certain way if we are to be a good parent to our child.
  • I just wish that I didn't have to feel like I'd been hit by a train with my depression and that it had been introduced as a possibility early on. I sincerely hope that any human being out there would hope the same for the mother of their child.
