Women, Infant & Children (WIC): Provide gluten-free food choices for children diagnosed with Autism
My 3 year old son was diagnosed with Autism 4 months ago. As his mother, I have been his main advocate getting him all the help he needs. He is in multiple programs that help Autistic children such as ABA ( Applied Behavioral Analysis) & Speech/Occupational Therapy. His insurance offers full coverage for these programs. In doing my research on Autism, I've found that a lot of parents have said that a gluten-diet and sometimes casein-free diet helps the symptoms of Autism. Many parents have said it was like a miracle for their children. Diet is known to be connected to Autism. I have been receiving WIC services for my son since birth. I am very low-income due to disabilities of my own and could not afford the expensive cost of gluten-free foods. I contacted my local WIC and currently there is no plan to have gluten-free food choices for families. This is very important to me. I need to do everything I can to help my son and I would be so grateful if you would sign my petition and bring change to the WIC program and dozens of families.
