When I recently gave birth to my daughter 7 weeks early both myself and the staff of SCBU where shocked to learn that you get no extra entitlement regarding maternity leave or compassionate leave of your baby is born early or needs to stay in hospital after birth. I would like to change this as I believe we should be entitled to compassionate leave or our Maternity leaving once everyone (including baby) is discharged from hospital. Because let’s face it as a NICU/Preemie/Hospital family you don’t get to enjoy your newborn or your life as a family as much as you would until you get home and are away from all the beeping of hospital equipment, ward rounds with the medical team and nurses popping in sometimes hourly to do what ever they need to do for your baby.
