To Whom May Concern-

We the women of the residence hall that is currently known as Manning, are fed up. The weight of the patriarchal structure at this university weighs heavily in our minds and souls. Every morning I wake up and walk out of this building, only to be reminded that grotesque men are dominating over my life. I look up at the sign outside our dormitory and see “Manning Hall” in black letters. Many would look at that sign, and think nothing of it...and that is just the problem. When you truly stop and think about it, there are much deeper semantics at play here. Why does it have to be MANning Hall? MANning....Doesn’t it seem a bit counterintuitive to have an all women’s dormitory bearing the name of the evil man? We all must open our eyes and see that the men of this university are trying to subtly control us with psychological warfare. Men are disgusting creatures, and this can be exemplified by the behavior of all of the brothers in Pikapp. I am writing this petition to officially change the name of our building from “Manning” to “Womanning”. As a resident here, I personally know many of the strong, beautiful, and independent ladies who call this building home. They do not deserve to carry the name of the wretched man. “Womanning” is a much more suitable name as it more accurately encapsulates the inhabitants of this community. We no longer will put up with men trying to rule over us with a watchful eye and an iron fist. It is 2021, and I will not stand for the patriarchy invading our sanctioned territory.
