Why this petition matters

Dear Women’s March on Washington organizers and sponsors,
We write to urge you to include Hillary Clinton has a Women’s March on Washington (March) honoree who has inspired women to demonstrate.
As activists and allies, we are dismayed that March organizers excluded Hillary Rodham Clinton as an honoree who has inspired women around the world to serve and to lead. On January 21, 2017, hundreds of thousands will convene in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. The event will be an historic one where a women-led movement will promote feminist leaders and principles during a turning point in America’s history.
The Women’s March on Washington reflects Hillary Clinton’s influence on global and domestic women’s rights advocacy by including her 1995 United Nations 4th World Conference on Women speech where she said, “Women’s rights are human rights.” Thousands of March participants organized and have been inspired to fight back, some for the first time in their lives because of her historic presidential campaign. Hillary Clinton has cemented her place in history, and feminist history, in particular, because of her lifetime of service and her resilience in the face of 25 years of extreme gender-based opposition to her leadership. Despite her loss, Hillary Clinton won close to 3 million more votes than the winning candidate and secured the support of 89 percent of African-American female voters.
Understanding there is diversity of thought, we strongly urge you to include Hillary Clinton as an honoree. She has been an effective advocate for women and children’s issues. Clinton has been a public servant and enduring influence on women and girls both here and abroad. Most importantly, it is important that an inclusive feminist movement show basic sisterhood towards the only women who won her party’s nomination to run as president in the United States.
Excluding Hillary Clinton does not reflect our support for and solidarity with her. We strongly urge you to reconsider your decision. Again, please add her name as a Women's March on Washington honoree.
Sincerely,
