Lucille Kyvallos is a trailblazer in woman's basketball. She began coaching at Queens College in 1968 and ended her career with a record of 239-77. Her teams ranked in the top 10 nationwide from 1972-1978. February 22, 1975 Queens College and Immaculata were the first women's teams to play collegiate basketball in Madison Square Garden. In 1977 Kyvallos coached the United States women's basketball team at the World University Games in Sofia, Bulgaria to a silver medal. She twice served on the US Olympic Committee. Kyvallos was at the forefront of the Title IX movement. Kyvallos 1972-73 squad was the first womans basketball team to be inducted into the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame. She has been inducted into the NYC Hall of Fame, the Westchester College Hall of Fame and the Queens College Athletics Hall of Fame. In 2015 she was awarded the Joe Lapchick Character Award, which is given to those who have demonstrated honorable character throughout their basketball careers. Queens College renamed their basketball court Lucille Kyvallos Court in her honor. Lucille Kyvallos is more than worthy of induction into the Woman's Basketball Hall of Fame!!
