Reopen Ekta Day Centre for Elderly from all backgrounds

The Ekta Day Centre on Mander Street in Wolverhampton was a valuable resource for elderly people in Wolverhampton. The centre previously provided a wide range of social and leisure activities for elders aged 55 or over. Unfortunately the centre was closed over 3 years ago and the building has remained derelict since.

Nanaksar Thath Isher Darbar (Sikh Gurdwara in Wolverhampton, West Midlands) would like to purchase the building and reopen it in its former glory as a social centre for the elderly. Previously the service was only available to elderly Asians. The proposal is to revive the service and make it available to elderly people from all backgrounds regardless of race/sex/religion. This is in line with Sikh Values of serving the community.  We would like to provide this service for older people who may need help and encouragement to maintain their independence at home. We feel that there is a lack of such services in the area. This will give elders an opportunity to access the health and social services they require.

The building is currently for sale and we need the community’s support to ensure our bid of the asking price is accepted to allow us to reopen the centre.

Please support us in making this happen.
