kenneth Brown started this petition to Wollongong City Council and

Electric scooters ( E-Scooters ) is a mode of transportation that is the new age craze from around the globe. Some countries and states condone this form of transportation Where others are behind the times.

Other states within Australia have integrated this mode of transportation sustainable by doing our part to elevate road congestion and in turn lowering our carbon footprint in regards to emissions and pollution.

last year being in the city of Brisbane QLD I seen this first hand with renting a E-Scooter with a ride share company named LIME. Not only did i see it working but it made complete sense as a mode of transportation especially for those shorter commutes.

I believe some states are in partnership in relation to this topic with the likes of LIME and NEURON and conducting trials, but I have also seen NSW being somewhat the NANNY state especially in the city of Sydney.

We have accepted cyclists sharing our roads without the means of being licensed nor insured with the faith of good behaviour measures in relation to road rules. E-bikes are here and we are seeing those being apart of the commuter evolution.
Most E-Scooters on the market have been limited to set speeds of 25-30 km/hr. They have integrated front head lamps and tail lights that show when the scooter is braking. Some scooters have both mechanical and electrical braking systems integrated. Just with these functions alone seam more logical to myself to consider when we don’t see these features on the everyday bicycle.

In this current time we are dealing with COVID and social distancing measures. And I believe having this form of transportation will help bend the curve as it will free up congestion on buses and trains for those shorter commuters. But also giving people a form of recreation and leisure of getting out of the house and getting back to seeing the sites of nature on our coastal bike tracks rather then being at home.

I would like to see the laws changed for NSW. And I believe the Illawarra region would be a great benchmark to set the precedent to adopt this as a better form of transportation for the rest of Australia.

With every mode of transportation carries risk. Some grater then others. But humanity evolves with the times and adapts to these behaviours and in turn integrates new advancements. I have put forward my case to local member Paul Scully and I am looking forward to attaining signatures to putting the Illawarra on the map and being the benchmark for NSW and the rest of Australia to get with the times!

I want to thank you for taking the time of reading said petition. And look forward to hearing what you think.
