Samuel Osborne started this petition to Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast(WOTC), the company that owns both “Dungeons and Dragons” and “Magic: The Gathering,” has time and time again shown that they do not care about the well-being of their POC employees or the diversity of their workforce, nor do they care about treating POC members of the player community fairly.

In recent months, Zaiem Beg and Orion D. Black, both of whom have worked closely with WOTC, have each written statements detailing the company’s pattern of racial discrimination: injustices that they have experienced personally and that they have witnessed others endure. Additionally, Lawrence Harmon, a black member of the Magic: The Gathering community, has written a document detailing racist behaviors he as a player has seen the company exhibit.

One of the most prominent issues surrounding the fantasy genre is its lack of diversity. Possibly the biggest reason for this being the case is, since its creation, fantasy in the mainstream has been dominated by white men whether they be authors, actors, directors, visual artists, or fans. The fantasy community has never truly been a safe place for marginalized groups, and with companies like WOTC perpetuating hostility and disrespect towards them, it cannot be so.

It is up to us to change this. We must push WOTC to diversify their creative teams, give equal opportunity to all of their employees, and listen to the voices of community members who are not cisgender white men. I want my younger siblings to be able to fall in love with worlds of fantasy, just as I have, without being made to feel as though they are out of place. Fantasy needs to be for everyone.
