Carrie Harrell-Payton started this petition to Wisconsin State Senate and

There are too many deaths and violence taking place in our Beloit, Wisconsin community. Citizens are afraid to walk the streets, shop in stores, worship in churches or send their children to school due to the amount of gun violence taking place in our community.

No one should be afraid that a stray bullet will enter their homes due to excessive shootings at the hands of angry uncontrollable people who should not have guns. Parents and children should not be afraid to play in parks or sit on their front lawns for fear a stray bullet will find them. Beloit has not been exempt!

As voters in the state of Wisconsin we demand that our voices be heard! It is the jobs of our elected officials to do more than send thoughts and prayers or have discussions for families of those who have died or been injured due to these senseless acts.

Everyone in this community either knows someone or has heard of someone who has been killed or injured by gun violence. The police can only uphold the laws. Our elected officials have the power to change the laws.

The time for talk is over. Inaction has gone on for years. Action needs to be taken now!
