WE RISE started this petition to Wisconsin Representatives and voters

Recent state legislation in Wisconsin is being voted on regarding “critical race theory.” The bills are presented as reducing discrimination in schools, but their effect would be to constrain education about race and gender.

What would happen if these bills become law?

It’s a great question to ask.

The people who support this legislation say they are preventing the spread of “critical race theory” and that they are stopping a “political agenda.”  This is false--there is no controversy about the need to increase awareness of injustice, fight against racism, and teach students the truth about American history.  Yet the bills’ supporters (without wide support from people of color) believe that teaching the truth is “divisive” and must be curtailed.

Please sign this petition so that education on race and gender can be continued without misguided political interference. If these bills ultimately become law, teachers’ and students’ voices will be silenced, and we will move backward in education.

Students should be able to learn honest history in school.
