Increase the base rate given to Early Years Providers on the Wirral

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

In September the government are introducing 30 hours Free childcare for parents. We welcome the 30 hours  offer which will benefit local families but are not prepared to receive a level of funding that does not cover costs.  Wirral Local authority plans to pay just £3.60 per hour (before supplements) to childcare providers. The national average is £4.83.  Liverpool, our neighboring Authority are receiving £4.10. National surveys confirm up to a third of nurseries will have no alternative but to opt out.

This rate is then not due for review until 2020 and during that time, commercial properties have been re evaluated and are facing steep increases, the national minimum and living wage will increase annually and the amount of pension contributions we make  for our employees will increase year on year.

We are joining forces to confront the decision makers and request a review of the base rate for all nurseries, Pre – Schools and Childminders. We want the base rate in Wirral increased to reflect the national average. The fact is that 30 hours and child care providers cannot succeed without adequate investment. Neither should parents nor providers be expected to subsidize this. The government wants Champagne Nurseries for Lemonade funding!
