Stuart Kelly started this petition to Wirral council

This petition requests Wirral Council to make the Holmlands Drive area of Oxton a 20mph zone.

Holmlands Drive is a residential area with families and children. It is a well-used route for access to local schools and leisure facilities (for example Woodchurch) and many people use bicycles to access school through the estate and to access leisure and the hospital beyond.

A minority of drivers abuse the speed limit and in any case the statutory limit of 30mph is still too high for this area. Holmlands Drive has previously had advisory 20mph signs but many have now disappeared when the lighting columns where renewed.

Wirral Council’s Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee on the 16 March 2021 voted in favour of this motion proposed by Oxton councillor, Allan Brame –

Committee recognises that a lower speed limit will help reduce the actual and perceived danger on the streets and take a step towards reclaiming the streets as a social place where neighbours interact with each other and encourage more children to walk or cycle to school. Slower traffic speeds can enable the elderly to travel independently and safely. Accordingly, officers are requested to prepare a scheme to make Wirral a 20 mph Borough. Residential roads should be designated as 20 mph limit areas, with signage and road markings alone, except in isolated cases where traffic calming measures might be necessary.

This petition is in support of this council resolution and requests that Holmlands estate is included within this programme at the earliest stage and includes traffic calming measures in appropriate locations to enforce a 20mph limit.
