Today, Wirral's Care Commissioning Group announced the closure of Eastham's Walk-in centre - a vital service for those in the local community.
In future, patients will be required to travel to either Birkenhead, or Chester to access NHS walk-in services.
Alison McGovern, MP for Wirral South described the closure as "brutal", highlighting that :
"It's too far to get to Arrowe Park or to the Countess of Chester, especially if you don’t drive. This situation has arisen because Arrowe Park doesn’t have enough staff. The blame for that lies at the door of the Tory Health Secretary."
This situation is simply unacceptable. The closure of the Walk-in Centre highlights how damaging Tory cuts have further impacted already vulnerable local communities.
A strong, unified message needs to be sent to the Wirral CCG, highlighting the importance of this service within the local community, and the damaging effect its closure would have upon the lives of local residents.
