Stop Wirral Council from unnecessary cancelling grass roots football on their pitches
Kids are regularly left devastated when football is cancelled on the Wirral as a result of premature and uninformed decisions from the Council to prevent matches taking place on their facilities. 6 November 2021 is the most recent example - cancellation on 4 November when pitches were already playable, citing poor weather ahead that was not forecast and obviously didn’t materialise.
The pandemic has caused enough damage to the mental state of our children and such ridiculous decision making is only adding to the problem. Matches will be cancelled moving forward due to actual adverse whether conditions and the kids need to play when they can for the benefit of their physical and mental health.
As coaches, we are responsible for the safety of our players and the sustainability of the game. Allow us to make the decision in conjunction with the FA, our referees and safeguarding officers. Conditions can vary across the borough and from pitch to pitch. We would not put the safety of our players at risk and we are aware of the need to protect the pitches for further use.
At the very least wait for the Friday evening to call the games off and use proper weather forecasting tools and resources.
