Save Hanes Park started this petition to Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus

It is time to decide what will be built on the field at Wiley School.

Public funds are available in the Wiley Gym bond project for the creation of a grass playing field which will serve most of RJRHS field sport needs and concerns about lost instruction time. Despite the previous no-vote on stadium construction, on August 10, the Building & Grounds committee directed staff to find a funding source for and will ask the full Board to approve construction of what is essentially the beginnings of a stadium on the site. There are currently no funds for this project.

Despite existing public procedures, public input concerning future plans for the field has been denied throughout planning and development of the Wiley Gym project. It is high time the Board heard what taxpayers support.

We support the creation of a shared public playing field in front of Wiley that:

• Is designed for its unique park setting and to remain accessible by ALL Wiley and Reynolds students by remaining open and not enclosed by a fence;

• Is suitable for practice and games for field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, band and more;

• Is natural grass turf;

• Provides seating on the NW Blvd hillside ONLY;

• Allows pedestrian access from NW Blvd into Hanes Park and from Hanes Park into the playing field and school; and

• Is available for public and area organizations such as the YMCA to use in the summer months and at other times when it is not used by WS/FCS.
