Placing speed bumps on Siewers Springs Road Bridge in Decorah Iowa
I have a concern involving the Siewers Springs Road Bridge as it nears the intersection of Trout Run Road in Decorah Iowa. I came to Decorah for the second time last week (June 28 July 2) to observe and enjoy the Decorah Eagles. During my time there, I couldn't help but notice the amount of traffic coming down Siewers Springs Road Bridge, let alone the speed of the traffic. This bridge now sits between the Decorah Eagles old nest and newly built nest of 2013. I witnessed a very close call of Dad Decorah almost being struck by a truck as he flew low across the bridge. (Yes, both the eagle and the truck were flying). I also noticed many bike riders, young and old, enjoying the bike trail. I am hoping that you can help by prolonging not only the lives of these famous Eagles, but also the lives of the humans that are enjoying Decorah and all that it has to offer.
I realize you can't control how people drive or how fast they drive, but perhaps there is one thing that might help in this situation and that would be Speed Bumps. They at least could provide some means to reduce any fatalities and or injuries of both humans and animals. I traveled many miles to visit these beautiful raptors. I met some people who traveled from Sweden and heard that some from Hawaii were there the week before. People come from all over the U.S. and other countries. I shudder to think what would happen if one of the eagles or a human were killed. As a U.S. citizen, I am very proud of our National Emblem. I am now an avid eagle watcher for the last 2 years and I am not alone. The Ustream website of the Decorah Eagles has had approximately 281,165,000 views. Mind boggling, isn't it?
I am simply asking that something be done to protect them. It is up to us, and Winneshiek County , to do what we can to preserve this species as we are stewards of this earth of ours. Right now, it is your name that is given to the public on your website, www.winneshiekcounty.org/eng-office. I am hoping you do something to make a difference?. I am hoping you do something to save lives. I too, believe in trying to make a difference, thus I felt compelled to start this petition. I am planting a seed of concern in your mind, and I hope something grows from it.
UPDATE:: First I would like to thank everyone who has voted. This is a very important issue for both the eagle family and the people who enjoy this family. The county is working on ideas to slow drivers down. They have placed speed signs up, but are working on other measures. Thank you one and all for you support. If these issues are not corrected in a timely fashion, I will re-post a petition again. For now I shall suspend this petition to allow the county to implement satisfactory compliance with our request. Thank you one and all for your support. EAGLE ON!
