Joshua Rowell started this petition to Winnebago County District Attorney's Office

On August 1st, 2020, a man identified as Steven M Edenburn of Belvidere, Illinois, after the Back the Blue Rally he was attending dispersed, stayed behind and charged peaceful protesters in a manner perceived by many as intending to use physical violence. This reduced a peaceful protest into skirmishes leading to the brutalization of protesters by law enforcement and by his compatriots. It is the creator’s of this petition belief based on first-hand experience and analysis of the evidence and related statutes—albeit unqualified to practice law—that Steven M Edenburn incited, participated in and carried on a riot.

Shortly after this action, he was seen and captured on video charging and throwing a young woman to the pavement in an attempt to stop her from dragging a Thin Blue Line flag on the ground. This flag was her property.

After these acts of violence, he proudly posted a video online detailing his actions.

Steven Edenburn was allowed by the Rockford Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s department to walk away freely without arrest.

It is the creator’s of this petition belief that the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office should prosecute Steven M Edenburn for the crimes of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and rioting.

The bearded man pictured has been identified as Steven M Edenburn. Several videos of his actions are publicly available on social media sites.
